WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, President Biden announced that he was nominating Rahul Gupta for National Director of Drug Control Policy and Lisa Wang for Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Compliance at the Department of Commerce.

Dr. Gupta is the Chief Medical and Health Officer and Senior Vice President at March of Dimes. He previously served as West Virginia’s Chief Health Officer, leading the state’s response to a devastating opioid crisis. Ms. Wang specializes in international trade law matters, including anti-dumping and countervailing duty litigation and trade policy issues. She has a long history of public service with experience working in the Department of Commerce, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement:

Congratulations to Rahul Gupta and Lisa Wang for their well-deserved nominations. Both Dr. Gupta and Ms. Wang are outstanding candidates with many years of public service and experience working in their respective fields. Crucially, as our country continues to battle the ongoing opioid epidemic, Dr. Gupta, who led West Virginia’s response to the opioid crisis, will bring years of knowledge and expertise to the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

“Additionally, I am confident Lisa Wang will be an excellent Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Compliance at the Department of Commerce. Her trade policy experience revolved around international trade issues such as anti-dumping, making her a key voice for American workers. I’m delighted to see the nominations of these two incredible candidates, and I urge the Senate to confirm them as soon as possible. I thank President Biden for continuing to deliver on his pledge to bring more diversity to all levels of the federal government.”
