Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, President Biden announced nine new federal judicial nominees including Judge Kenly Kiya Kato. Judge Kato has been nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the Central District of California, where if confirmed, she would be the second AAPI woman to serve in the Central District of California. Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) issued the following statement:

“I’m thrilled to congratulate Judge Kenly Kiya Kato on her nomination to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Judge Kato has served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California since 2014, and has demonstrated an expertise in law and commitment to justice that makes her incredibly well-qualified for this position. I am glad that President Biden has continued his efforts to appoint diverse members in our courts, and I hope the Senate will act swiftly on Judge Kato’s confirmation.”
