CAPAC Chair Statement on Two Nominations to Lead Office of Management and Budget

November 24, 2021

Washington, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden nominated Shalanda Young and Nani Coloretti to serve as Director and Deputy Director, respectively, of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Rep. Judy Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), issued the following statement:

“The Office of Management and Budget is one of the most consequential in the Federal government, ensuring the implementation of the funding needed to execute the President’s agenda. That is why it is so crucial that we have historic firsts leading OMB to make sure overlooked communities are being included, especially as we work for an economic recovery that works for all Americans. And in his selection of Shalanda Young and Nani Coloretti, President Biden has done just that, drawing on two candidates with extensive experience and know-how. For months now, Shalanda has been overseeing the operations of the OMB to great effect. And I’m especially excited by the nomination of Nani Coloretti, the first AAPI to be nominated to this position and who would be one of the highest ranking AAPIs in government if confirmed. Nani has vast experience in the federal government, having served under President Obama for almost eight years, including as deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Before that, she spent five years at the Department of Treasury and also has years of experience at the local level as well. Her expertise is going to be so important in the work ahead as we continue to Build Back Better.  I congratulate her on this important nomination and thank President Biden for his ongoing commitment to building a government that reflects the true diversity of our country.”
