CAPAC Members Chu and Honda Release Statements on Passing of Matt Fong

WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Reps. Chu and Honda of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) today released the following statements on the passing of Matt Fong. Matt Fong was the first Asian American to serve as California’s State Treasurer.

Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32), CAPAC Chair: “The passing of Matt Fong – a man who committed his life to public service – is truly tragic.  As a former State Treasurer and Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve, Matt Fong served both California and our country with dedication and courage, and will be greatly missed.”

Rep. Mike Honda (CA-15), CAPAC Chair Emeritus: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Matt Fong. Matt was always a trail blazer, becoming the first Asian American Republican to hold statewide office as California’s State Treasurer in 1994.  He will always be remembered as a man of great intellect and will be missed by many.”
