CAPAC Members Welcome Nani Coloretti as Deputy Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate voted 68-28 to confirm Nani Coloretti as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements:

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair:

“Congratulations to Nani Coloretti on her confirmation as the new Deputy Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Nani is a veteran manager with a proven record of leading local and federal government programs, and I know that her experience and leadership will serve her well in managing HUD’s $45 billion annual budget and day-to-day operations.

“Her confirmation is a positive step forward for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and marks only the third time in history that an AAPI has held a deputy secretary position. I wish Nani the best and look forward to working with her in her new role.”

“Congratulations to Nani on her confirmation as Deputy Secretary of HUD. We are proud that Nani, who grew up in Hawaii, is now the highest ranking Filipina-American in the administration.

Background:

Nani A. Coloretti currently serves as the Assistant Secretary for Management at the U.S. Department of Treasury, a position she has held since November 2012. From 2009 to 2012, she served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Ms. Coloretti worked in the San Francisco Mayor’s office from 2005 until 2009, most recently serving as Budget Director. Previously, she served as the Director of Policy, Planning, and Budget for the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families from 1999 to 2005. Ms. Coloretti worked as a Health Financing Branch Budget Examiner for the U.S. Office of Management and Budget from 1994 to 1997. She was a Budget Analyst for the Department of Public Safety in the State of Hawaii from 1991 to 1992. Ms. Coloretti received a B.A. in Economics and Communications from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.P.P. from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley.
