CAPAC Welcomes Krystal Ka'ai as Executive Director

September 12, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) welcomes Krystal Ka'ai as its new Executive Director. CAPAC Chairwoman Judy Chu and the entire Hawaiian Congressional Delegation released the following quotes congratulating Krystal, the first Native Hawaiian to serve as Executive Director:

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), CAPAC Chair: “I’m thrilled to welcome Krystal Ka'ai to her new role as Executive Director of CAPAC. We have been fortunate to have Krystal on our team for two years now, and in that time her leadership helped guide our caucus to its highest Membership ever. Her positivity and team spirit have been a great attribute to the CAPAC family, and her breadth of experience on issues important to the AAPI community makes her uniquely qualified to build on her already impressive record with our caucus. I am very excited to see Krystal’s continued success in the years to come.”

Senator Mazie Hirono (HI): “Congratulations to Krystal for taking over as CAPAC’s Executive Director, becoming the first person of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander descent to fill this leadership position. From her previous policy advisory role with CAPAC to her work with Senator Daniel Akaka, it is clear Krystal understands the critical issues that affect the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. A Kamehameha Schools graduate, her strong Hawaii ties will provide an important perspective in her work. I am looking forward to advancing our shared goals as a proud member of CAPAC.”

Senator Brian Schatz (HI): “I congratulate Krystal Ka‘ai on her new role as Executive Director of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.  I am confident that with her strong background advocating for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, she will continue to make Hawai‘i proud as the Caucus’ first Native Hawaiian Executive Director.”

Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01): “I want to congratulate Krystal on being selected as CAPAC’s new executive director. As a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and formerly CAPAC’s policy advisor, her passion for AAPI advocacy will bring a fresh perspective to the issues facing our diverse communities.  I look forward to working with Krystal to further promote AAPI priorities.”

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02): “As a Member from Hawai‘i, I am particularly proud of Krystal's appointment.  Her variety of experiences will strengthen her ability to be an advocate and forge strong alliances for CAPAC.  As the first executive director of Native Hawaiian descent, Krystal will bring a new perspective and the aloha spirit to CAPAC and the work the caucus does for the whole Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community.  I look forward to continuing to work with Krystal.”
